Product Care

We want you to use and love your handmade pottery pieces for many years to come! Our pottery is designed to be hearty and durable, but a a few extra steps will help it to last even longer.

Please read for a few essential tips to care for and clean your pottery.

All of our pottery is lead free, and food safe for the microwave and dishwasher.

While some pottery or stoneware is extremely porous and and can absorb liquids from your dishwasher that are then released back into your food, our pottery is fired to a temperature where it does not directly absorb liquids, and can be used safely in the dishwasher.

This does not mean that our handmade pieces may not crack or react to the elements or your microwave or dishwasher when not used properly.

If your pottery strikes something harder than itself, it can chip and eventually crack, so treat your pieces with care when using the dishwasher. Firmly place your items so that they cannot rattle around, and so that they are not in direct contact with one another or other breakable items.

When using the microwave, it’s important to keep your proportions in mind. For example, if you heat a very small amount of food on a large plate, the heat is not evenly distributed and this can cause pockets of heat throughout the piece, possibly leading to cracking or weakening.

Be very mindful of moving your pieces from one heat extreme to the other. For example, avoid wrapping your leftovers on a plate, storing in the fridge, then moving directly to the microwave. Exposing your pottery to the extreme rise and fall of temperatures may cause it to crack. Taking a mug from your cupboard and pouring hot coffee into it is certainly not a concern, just be cautious of going from very hot to very cold, and vice versa.
